Britain’s top places for tea

The Dorchester Hotel in London has been awarded The Tea Guild’s Top London Afternoon Tea 2007 award. Its tea includes a selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries as well as a choice of teas from around the world (£29.50).

The British tradition of taking afternoon tea has been celebrated by the UK Tea Council with the announcement of two top awards.

The Dorchester Hotel in London has been awarded The Tea Guild’s Top London Afternoon Tea 2007 award. Its tea includes a selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries as well as a choice of teas from around the world (£29.50). The Dorchester on Park Lane fought off competition from The Lanesborough, The Ritz and Claridges and was commended for its excellent brewing, attentive service, discreet piano music and the elegant surroundings of The Promenade.

The Peacocks Tearoom in Ely, Cambridgeshire has been named the UK’s Top Tea Place 2007. Peacocks offers over 50 types of tea and a range of food from light meals to the full afternoon tea (£12) throughout the day with excellent home cooking, a pretty garden and a warm welcome. Visitors can get advice about which tea to choose and increase their knowledge of England’s national drink with a whole shelf of books on the subject.
