Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007

The best accommodation, visitor attractions, customer service and so on, right across England’s tourism scene, have been recognised at the tourism equivalent of the Oscars.

The best accommodation, visitor attractions, customer service and so on, right across England’s tourism scene, have been recognised at the tourism equivalent of the Oscars. The winners of the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007 are led by musical genius Sir Paul McCartney, who received recognition for his Outstanding Contribution to Tourism, an award he shares with his home city of Liverpool,  which becomes European Capital of Culture 2008 next year.

Also among the winners of the 16 Gold Awards, sponsored by The Caravan Club, are Number One Blackpool, declared Bed and Breakfast of the Year, in the Lancashire seaside resort; while Small Hotel of the Year is Stanley House, Mellor, Lancashire, near the Lake District. Large Hotel of the Year Winner is The Chester Grosvenor and Spa, in the heart of medieval Chester, while Caravan Holiday Park of the Year is Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside, Cumbria.

Small Visitor Attraction of the Year is the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum near Hoveton, Norfolk, while the joint winners of the Large Attraction of the Year are Alnwick Castle, Northumberland and the ironclad steamship ss Great Britain in Bristol. The Taste of England Award went to The Star Inn & Perns of Helmsley, a Michelin starred restaurant, while the Outstanding Customer Service Award was given to Graham Worton, keeper of geology at Dudley Museum & Art Gallery in the West Midlands.
