The Dulwich Picture Gallery is to host two major exhibitions: Rembrandt & Co: Dealing in Masterpieces (June 7-Sept. 3) explores the story of the most important art dealerships in 17th century Amsterdam and Canaletto in England: A Venetian Artist Abroad 1746-1755 (Jan. 24, 2006-April 15, 2007) will examine the artist’s paintings and drawings of English scenes. The first major exhibition of sculptor and painter Amedeo Modigliani to be held in Britain for more than 40 years will be on display at the Royal Academy of Arts. The Triumph of Eros: Art and Seduction in 18th Century France (Nov.2006- April 2007) will bring together paintings, drawings, furniture and decorative arts at the Hermitage Rooms at Somerset House, to recreate the atmosphere from French stories of ‘architectural seduction’. Drawings of characters from children’s literature such as A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore by artist E.H. Shepard will be available to buy at The Fine Art Society gallery in New Bond Street (Dec.6-21). The exhibition will include 300 illustrations many of which have never been seen before. A series of free culturally themed weekend events at Bernie Spain Gardens on the South Bank form this summer’s Coin Street Festival. Highlights include “Brasil, to dentro!” (July1-2) with Brazilian music, costumes, food and football and “Turkish Fest” (July 15-16) with the Turkish Classical Chorus and belly dancing.
