Surgeons plan luxury Edinburgh hotel

One of the world’s oldest medical incorporations is to open a luxury hotel in one of its elegant Georgian buildings in Edinburgh. The Royal College of Surgeons (RCSEd), founded in 1505, will open the 73-bedroom Ten Hill Place in its former postgraduate residence. It will retain its original Georgian façade but with a new, contemporary interior. All rooms will feature air-conditioning, high-speed Internet access and satellite TV. The new hotel opens in November and there will be a separate international conference centre (opening in July) as part of the £14 million development programme.

There are also plans to upgrade the 174-year-old headquarters building to allow greater access to the Surgeons’ Hall museums, containing Scotland’s largest collection of medical, anatomical and pathological material. The RCSEd, which has members in more than 90 countries, is situated in the heart of Edinburgh, ten minutes’ walk from Princes Street. Website: www.rcsed.ac.uk
