Open House

Each year, Greater London turns into a massive architectural exhibition for a weekend, when about 500 fascinating buildings of many different kinds – private dwellings, civic and government buildings, historic houses - open their doors to the public free of charge.

Each year, Greater London turns into a massive architectural exhibition for a weekend, when about 500 fascinating buildings of many different kinds – private dwellings, civic and government buildings, historic houses - open their doors to the public free of charge. In many cases this is the only time they are open. Huge enthusiasm has built up for this imaginative venture, and last year an estimated 360,000 visits were made to buildings across the capital. This year’s Open House event takes place September 16-17. Interesting projects accessible this time include ‘works in progress’ such as Wembley Stadium, St Pancras International and Heathrow’s new Terminal 5. Engineers and architects are often on hand to discuss the buildings.
